Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?

Before an appointment is confirmed, a prospective client must review and agree to the Terms and Conditions of Therapy.
The first session is a ‘getting to know you‘ session to understand the framework of your life.  Very quickly, patterns emerge and during each subsequent week, we will explore how a significant ‘other person‘ (or persons) influenced your behaviour (father, mother etc.) You then choose to hold on to those learned behaviours or change them if they are negatively impacting your life. Responses or reactions to life situations are also reviewed and worked through.

HOW LONG IS A THERAPY SESSION?

Each session takes 50 minutes and you decide the pace. Some clients are prepared to let go quickly and others take more time.  Whatever suits you is best for you.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A THERAPY AGREEMENT?

Before starting therapy with any practitioner, it is recommended that you review their Contract to satisfy yourself that they are professionally competent and that they abide by a Code of Ethics from their Professional  Association.
Since one of the foundation stones of all good relationships is communication, please review the terms and conditions of the Therapy Contract and pay attention to your rights and responsibilities concerning Confidentiality, Ethics, Duration of sessions and length of treatment, Fees, Professional Standards, Record Keeping, Data Protection and Journalling.
Please review the full Therapy Agreement and  confirm your agreement by email once you have reviewed it prior to your appointment being confirmed.

DO I HAVE TO BE HYPNOTISED?

No. However, hypnosis is only focused attention and ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS LIKE?

Hypnosis is simply focused attention that is often accompanied by a feeling of relaxation. You choose how deeply or how lightly you wish to experience hypnosis. It takes practice to drop into deeper levels of hypnosis. Clients often report that they are more aware of everything that is going on when in hypnosis, than in the normal waking state.

IS THERE ANYTHING FOR ME TO DO BETWEEN SESSIONS?

Yes. If you wish to maximise the benefit of your sessions, I will ask you to do some short daily reflective journalling in which you record your thoughts, feelings and dreams and reflect on the meaning and patterns that emerge. If you prefer not to undertake assignments/homework, that’s fine too. It is purely a personal choice and one that is always respected.

WHAT TYPE OF PERSON WANTS HYPNO-PSYCHOTHERAPY?

In short – smart people. Often people say they don’t know why exactly they are coming other than stating that they are unhappy with their lives and need some direction. Some are floundering in their relationships; grief stricken with bereavement of a loved one; suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxieties, fears, and phobias. Others are going through major life changes or spiritual crisis and are looking for a trained professional to help them sort things out.

DO YOU TAKE CARD PAYMENTS?

Payments are made using direct debit, paypal or SumUp online where you can use your Visa or MasterCard to input payment securely.

CAN I RECORD A SESSION?

No.  Sessions are private and may not be recorded.
